Navrongo Liberty Stars’ talented midfielder, Kantuwine Anthony Sakar, has been selected to represent the University for Development Studies (UDS) at the 12th All Africa University Games, scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt.
Anthony, a Level 300 student of UDS pursuing Public Health, is a key member of the Navrongo Liberty Stars team, who compete in Division Two football in the Upper East Region.
The talented footballer began his career with Mboma City FC, where he progressed through the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 teams.
His impressive performances and exceptional talent earned him a move to Navrongo Liberty Stars, then competing in Division Three.
Anthony played an important role in Liberty Stars’ successful campaign, helping the club secure promotion to Division Two with an unbeaten record. Since then, he has continued to play a significant role in the club’s setup.
His selection to the UDS team adds another milestone to his promising football career and gives him an opportunity to represent Ghanaian university football on the continental stage.
UDS will be aiming to defend its title after an impressive performance at the previous edition of the All Africa University Games. The UDS men’s football team won the championship after defeating hosts University of Lagos 3–0 in the final.
The Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) Games are held biennially and bring together universities from across Africa to compete in various sporting disciplines. The first edition of the FASU Games was held in Accra in 1974.
The Games feature sporting disciplines including athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, karate and several others.
Anthony’s inclusion in the UDS squad is a significant achievement for both the player and Navrongo Liberty Stars, as he gets the opportunity to showcase his talent at one of Africa’s biggest university sporting competitions.
