Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly disburses GH₵401,654 to 120 PWD
The initiative seeks to promote social inclusion, equity, and economic empowerment among persons with disabilities within the municipality.
The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly has disbursed a total of GH₵401,654 and other items to 120 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) under the District Assemblies Common Fund for Persons with Disabilities (DACF-PWDs).
The initiative seeks to promote social inclusion, equity, and economic empowerment among persons with disabilities within the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Faustina Akeyom Abulu, speaking at the disbursement, said it was in line with the government’s commitment to fostering self-reliance and sustainable development among citizens with disabilities.
“We are not here merely to provide temporary support, but to empower each beneficiary to become self-reliant and an active contributor to our local economy,” the MCE stated

Out of the total beneficiaries, 104 received support for income-generating ventures such as petty trading, tailoring, and shoemaking. Six beneficiaries also received assistance for critical health needs, while ten others received support for their education through the payment of school fees and the provision of learning materials.
“This allocation includes support for one hundred and four beneficiaries embarking on income-generating activities such as petty trading, tailoring, and shoemaking,” Abulu noted.
In addition to the funds, the Assembly also distributed assistive devices to promote mobility and independence. These included three wheelchairs, eight pairs of crutches, and twenty-three white canes for members of the Ghana Federation of the Physically Challenged and the Ghana Blind Union.
“We recognise that true empowerment requires a holistic approach. Therefore the Assembly has also procured essential assistive devices to enhance mobility and independence”.
One of the beneficiaries Chirase Ethel, a visually impaired student who received a laptop, expressed gratitude to the Assembly.
“I’m visually impaired, and this laptop will help me a lot. I just completed junior high and I’m now going to senior high. This laptop will really help me. I’m very grateful to them for what they’ve done for me,” the beneficiary said.
