The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kassena-Nankana West, Stephen Aeke Akurugo, has called on residents of Nakolo and Nyongo to take ownership of newly completed school infrastructure in their communities to ensure proper maintenance and sustainability.
The DCE made the appeal on Tuesday, April 21, when he commissioned and handed over a three-unit classroom block at Nakolo Junior High School ‘B’ and a six-unit classroom block at Nyongo Primary School.
The projects, funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund, were awarded in 2024 and completed in 2026.
Each facility is equipped with auxiliary amenities, including 12-seater toilet facilities and solar-powered mechanised boreholes to improve sanitation and water access in the schools.
Addressing teachers, pupils, and community members during brief commissioning ceremonies in both communities, Akurugo stressed the importance of community participation in safeguarding the projects.
He urged residents to support school authorities in maintaining the facilities to ensure their long-term use.
Representatives of the Ghana Education Service also welcomed the projects, expressing optimism that the improved infrastructure would significantly enhance teaching and learning in the beneficiary schools.

Akurugo further commended the government of the National Democratic Congress, led by John Dramani Mahama, for uncapping the GETFund, a move he said has enhanced the availability of resources for completing critical educational infrastructure across the country.
He expressed optimism that the improved learning environment would help nurture responsible and influential citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to both community and national development.
Chiefs and assembly members from Nakolo and Nyongo welcomed the projects and pledged their commitment to maintaining the facilities.
They, however, appealed to the DCE to prioritise additional development needs in their communities.
Meanwhile, Akurugo is expected to commission additional projects in the district, including one at Katiu funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund, and another at Yidania supported by SOCO.
