Upper East GJA Chair William Jalulah opts out of re-election bid

Jalulah, a respected Journalist, has served the association in the region for three years, a term widely seen as a period of growth and renewed engagement for journalists in the region. 

William Nlanjerbor Jalulah, the outgoing Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Upper East Region, has announced he will not seek re-election when his current term ends in June 2025.

In a June 4, official statement addressed to members of the GJA, Jalulah attributed his decision to step down to an indefinite relocation out of the region.

He described his tenure as rewarding and impactful, highlighting major strides in membership growth, professional development, and collaboration with key stakeholders.

“It is with much pleasure that I write to inform the Executive and members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Upper East Region, as well as the general public, that I have decided not to seek re-election,” he stated.

Under his leadership, the GJA in Upper East Region achieved several key milestones including a significant growth in membership, capacity building and training for members, high profile events to champion climate change, commemorate World Press Freedom Day, among others.

He also successfully spearheaded the organization of Upper East Region’s 2 nd and 3rd GJA Awards ceremonies in 2023 and 2024, respectively. These ceremonies recognized excellence in journalism across multiple categories and honoured outstanding contributions of the media landscape.

Jalulah, known for his love for sports, also initiated a football team for the association, fostering unity and collaboration with major stakeholders through sports. Highlights included matches against NDC and NPP communicators.

Throughout his tenure, Jalulah also championed partnerships with civil society organizations, corporate bodies, state agencies, and the security services. These collaborations, he stated, played a crucial role in advancing journalism and building a more resilient media community in the Upper East Region. He urged successive executives to continue in that path.

“I urge the yet-to-be-elected Executive to aim at building on these initiatives to further strengthen the media in the region and address emerging challenges,” he added.

Jalulah, in his statement, did not forget to thank GJA members in the region, stakeholders, and supporters who contributed to the successes achieved under his leadership.T

“To all members of the Upper East GJA, I cannot thank you enough for choosing me as your chairman three years ago. I truly value your trust and the confidence you reposed in me,” he said. “To my colleague executives, your support, inspiration, and cooperation made our achievements possible.”
