Kassena-Nankana West District disburses funds to 60 persons with disabilities
The event, held on Thursday September 12, at the District Assembly Conference Hall, formed part of the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of vulnerable groups and promoting social inclusion in the district.
The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the Kassena-Nankana West District has disbursed funds to 60 persons living with disabilities to support them in undertaking income-generating activities.
The event, held on Thursday September 11, at the District Assembly Conference Hall, formed part of the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of vulnerable groups and promoting social inclusion in the district.
Ali Zakari, Secretary of the District Disability Fund Management Committee, described the disbursement as a significant step in supporting persons with disabilities. He clarified that the funds were provided by the Government of Ghana and the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly.

He also cautioned beneficiaries against individuals who might attempt to take advantage of them after the disbursement.
“Please, this money is not given to you by your organisations. This money is not coming from the Department of Social Welfare. This money is coming from the Government of Ghana and the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly.” He emphasised.
The District Chief Executive, Stephen Aeke, Akurugo, said the funds were intended to serve as a springboard for beneficiaries and encouraged them to use the resources wisely to become more self-reliant and contribute to the district’s development.

“These funds are meant to serve as a springboard to support income-generating activities, provide assistive devices, pay for education and apprenticeship, and improve the healthcare needs of persons living with disabilities.” He stated.
Akubire Atia Mark, the Upper East Regional President of Persons with Disabilities, highlighted the persistent exclusion of persons with disabilities from decision-making spaces.
“We are all aware that when decision-making processes are going on and we are even the first people to sit there, another person who is not a disabled person comes without getting a seat to sit on, the disabled person who is present is asked to vacate from the seat and allow the so-called able person to sit. Just because society did everything for us.”
