NDC’s contribution to basic education impressive — Party Communicator

Abada said the NDC’s interventions in the education sector have largely been driven by infrastructure development, provision of teaching and learning materials, and strategic asset creation to support schools across the country.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Mercy Abada, has described the party’s contribution to basic education over Ghana’s 34-year democratic journey as significant and impactful.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, May 6, Abada said the NDC’s interventions in the education sector have largely been driven by infrastructure development, provision of teaching and learning materials, and strategic asset creation to support schools across the country.

According to her, initiatives such as the “Furniture for All” programme played a key role in addressing the long-standing deficit in classroom furniture, while an aggressive infrastructure expansion drive helped reduce the prevalence of schools operating under trees.

“We introduced an aggressive infrastructure development agenda that led to the construction of new classroom blocks and the renovation of dilapidated school buildings to improve teaching and learning conditions,” she stated.

Abada also took a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing it of introducing a new curriculum without ensuring the adequate provision of textbooks and other essential learning materials.

“Today, we have a new curriculum, but there are no textbooks. Even teachers do not have access to the materials they need. The difference between the NDC and the NPP is that we not only introduce policies but also make provisions to support their implementation,” she argued.
