NDC’s Maurice Achana criticizes GoldBod CEO over viral video with Nana Agradaa

Achana described the conduct of the high-ranking public servant as “unfortunate” and inappropriate, particularly considering Gyamfi’s position at the helm of an institution that oversees the country's gold exports.

Maurice Achana, a Communications Team member for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, has added his voice to the growing controversy surrounding Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), after a viral video emerged showing him giving U.S. dollars to self-styled evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, Achana described the conduct of the high-ranking public servant as “unfortunate” and inappropriate, particularly considering Gyamfi’s position at the helm of an institution that oversees the country’s gold exports.

“That is not good for our governance,” Achana said. “If the president says he wants to tackle corruption, and you are the head of a very key entity like the Gold Board, you handle all the gold that goes out of our country, so if you are seen dashing dollars, you give people the right to say many things about you.”

The video, which has triggered significant public backlash, has reignited conversations around transparency, the ethical behavior of public officials, and the misuse of influence and state resources.

Despite his criticism, Achana urged Ghanaians to exercise restraint and empathy, suggesting that the CEO may have recognized his error. “I will urge all Ghanaians to forgive him. I think he has learnt his lessons,” he added.

The incident has intensified calls for stronger ethical oversight in public institutions and has placed further pressure on government officials to uphold the highest standards of accountability.
