NPP fears humiliation in Ablekuma North rerun, NDC’s Asurayaga claims

Asurayaga however believes the NPP’s position is a clear indication that it is anticipating an abysmal performance in the fresh polls.

Angelina Asurayaga, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of withdrawing from the upcoming parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North out of fear of defeat.

Her remarks follow the Electoral Commission’s (EC) recent announcement of a rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency. The decision, according to the EC, stems from irregularities discovered during the collation of results, specifically, the failure of some Presiding Officers to validate scanned pink sheets, raising concerns about the transparency of the original process.

The NPP has, however, maintained that its candidate, Akua Afriyie, was the rightful winner of the 2024 parliamentary election and has thus signalled an intention not to participate in the rerun.

Asurayaga, speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday July 9, however, believes the NPP’s position is a clear indication that it is anticipating an abysmal performance in the fresh polls.

They are afraid because of the kind of disgrace they will face in 19 polling stations the election will be rerun, six months and His Excellency John Dahmani Mahama has overworked such that if elections are run today, the percentage that they got will be slashed into three and given one and the larger portion will be given to the NDC, Asurayaga said

She further noted that the rerun results will serve as a critical reflection of the public’s trust in the NDC and, by extension, the Mahama-led administration’s performance since taking office.

This election is going to be like a test for the NDC. It’s a sample test for the NDC to be able to know how well the government is doing, and that’s what they are afraid of.” she added.
