NPP to embrace fact-based communication ahead of 2028 elections– Akonga
Dr. Samuel Akonga says the party is strengthening research, training and coordination to ensure communicators rely on credible data when addressing public issues.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Communications Director, Dr. Samuel Akonga, says the party’s communication machinery in the region will adopt a more evidence-based approach as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the new communication strategy will place greater emphasis on facts, research and credible data rather than propaganda, as the party seeks to strengthen its engagement with the public.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Tuesday, September 8, Dr. Akonga said NPP communicators must be adequately prepared with accurate and verifiable information before appearing on radio or other platforms to discuss national and regional issues.
“You must go to the radio station and speak with facts. And what are the facts? You must speak with data. Let the data speak to itself,” he stressed.
Dr. Akonga disclosed that the regional communications team has established a research committee tasked with gathering relevant information and providing communicators with the facts and data required to effectively address issues on various platforms.
He said the initiative was intended to prevent NPP communicators from making claims that could not be supported by evidence, particularly when discussing governance and other issues of public interest.
Dr. Akonga also identified inconsistent messaging among party communicators as one of the weaknesses the new leadership seeks to address.
He explained that while communicators would retain the freedom to express their views, their individual contributions must not contradict the broader position of the party.
“What we don’t want is that you don’t go there and say things totally different from the stance of the party,” he explained.
He further revealed that the regional communications leadership had begun engaging constituency communication officers as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s communication structures ahead of the 2028 elections.
According to him, the party also plans to organise training programmes for constituency, electoral area and polling station communication officers, as well as other interested party members.
Dr. Akonga believes the training and research initiatives will help build a stronger and more coordinated communication team capable of effectively presenting the NPP’s position on national and regional issues.
“We want to make sure that we form a formidable communication team that will speak with facts, speak with fire and strategy,” he declared.
He said the new approach formed part of the NPP’s broader reorganisation ahead of the 2028 elections, with the communications team expected to scrutinise government policies and hold the administration accountable while also acknowledging policies and programmes that benefit Ghanaians.
