NPP’s Cletus Kaba urges OSP to handle cases without public spectacle
Kaba criticised what he described as the "unnecessary noise and public spectacle" surrounding the OSP's handling of the case.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Cletus Kaba, has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to adopt a more discreet and professional approach in handling investigations and arrests.
His comments follow the recent invitation and subsequent detention of former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, in connection with a revenue assurance contract under scrutiny.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday August 6, Kaba criticised what he described as the “unnecessary noise and public spectacle” surrounding the OSP’s handling of the case.
“I think these institutions should find a way of getting things done without the news and noise. It also means that they are not really doing much, so they do it publicly to please the government of the day.” Kaba stated.
He questioned the rationale behind the stringent bail conditions imposed on Adom-Otchere, describing them as excessive and possibly designed to attract public attention rather than serve justice.
Kaba, emphasised that the focus of prosecuting institutions should be on the outcomes of their investigations, not the publicity surrounding initial arrests.
“You can get our monies or punish people, but not in this manner. Because of Paul’s arrest, the main issue behind his detention has been lost. If you ask many people the reason for his detention, most will not be able to tell you,” he argued.
While expressing support for the fight against corruption, Kaba stressed the need for fairness and due process in prosecuting suspected individuals. He urged the OSP to concentrate on building strong cases and ensuring that justice is served quietly but effectively.
