One suspect arrested as police launch investigation into killing of Immigration Officer

His whereabouts remained unknown until the burnt remains were found earlier this week. Family members confirmed his identity at the Police Hospital morgue despite the severe burns.

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of an Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, on Tuesday, July 9, 2025.

Amoah, who resided at Ashongman Estate, was reported missing on July 4 after leaving home the night before. His whereabouts remained unknown until the burnt remains were found earlier this week. Family members confirmed his identity at the Police Hospital morgue despite the severe burns.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, police identified the suspect as Bright Aveh. According to investigators, Aveh had sent WhatsApp images of large bundles of cash to the deceased, requesting a meeting to settle an outstanding amount. That meeting was reportedly the last time Amoah was seen alive.

During interrogation, Aveh admitted to handing over GH₵500,000.00 in cash to Amoah, instructing him to use part of it to pay off debts and keep the remainder. However, he failed to provide a credible explanation for the source of the funds and gave conflicting accounts when questioned further.

The police have not disclosed a motive but say they are pursuing several lines of inquiry.
