Residents urge Assembly Members to confirm Faustina Abulu as KNMCE
The residents also directed pointed messages at the leadership and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Navrongo, urging them to mend internal divisions and rally behind Abulu’s re-nomination.
Residents of the Kassena-Nankana Municipality have called on Assembly Members to confirm President John Mahama’s re-nomination of Faustina Akeyom Abulu as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
The appeal was made during phone-ins to the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Mike 105.3 FM on Thursday morning.
Abulu, in her previous nomination, was overwhelmingly rejected by the Assembly in April during her confirmation vote.
Callers to the popular morning show expressed strong support for Abulu, describing her as a capable leader who deserves the position. They emphasized that the continued absence of an MCE is negatively affecting governance and halting developmental progress in the municipality.
“She should be confirmed for the good of the municipality. We need someone in charge and Faustina Abulu has already shown she can do the job,” One called said.
The residents also directed pointed messages at the leadership and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Navrongo, urging them to mend internal divisions and rally behind Abulu’s re-nomination.
“The infighting must stop. It’s time to put Navrongo first,” another caller added.
The Kassena-Nankana Municipality has been without a substantive MCE for months; a situation many residents fear could have long-term effects if not resolved soon.
Abulu is expected to be vetted by the assembly members anytime soon, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for confirmation.
The President’s re-nomination of Abulu signals his continued confidence in her leadership and suitability for the role. It remains to be seen whether the assembly members will shift their stance during the second round of voting.
