Road infrastructure remains major challenge in Chiana-Paga Constituency – Kopanamo
NDC aspirant James Kojo Kopanamo says improved roads, stronger agricultural support and greater representation are needed to accelerate development in the constituency.
An aspirant for the Upper East Regional Vice Chairperson position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), James Kojo Kopanamo, has identified poor road infrastructure as one of the major challenges confronting residents of the Chiana-Paga Constituency.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday September 21, Kopanamo said the constituency’s geographical spread, coupled with its large number of communities and polling stations, made improved road infrastructure particularly important to residents.
He said the NDC government was committed to addressing the development needs of the constituency, including its road infrastructure.
Kopanamo cited the consideration of some roads in the area for construction under the government’s Big Push infrastructure initiative, saying such interventions could improve connectivity and facilitate socio-economic activities in the constituency.
He also called for the constituency to be divided into additional constituencies, arguing that its vast geographical nature warranted greater political and administrative representation.
According to him, the Chiana-Paga Constituency has about 133 polling stations and could potentially be divided into three constituencies to improve representation and administrative coordination.
On agriculture, Kopanamo commended the government’s efforts to address challenges confronting the sector.
He particularly mentioned plans for collaboration between the government and the management of the Irrigation Company of Upper Region (ICOUR) to increase domestic tomato production and reduce Ghana’s dependence on tomatoes imported from neighbouring countries.
He also cited the Feed Ghana Initiative, the establishment of farming centres and other planned interventions as measures that, in his view, would help address some of the challenges confronting farmers and improve agricultural production.
Kopanamo said the implementation of these interventions could create better opportunities for farmers, increase food production and strengthen the agricultural sector.
While acknowledging the existing challenges facing agriculture, he expressed optimism that the government’s policies and interventions would gradually improve conditions for farmers.
