Seeming tensions in NPP are part of the party’s rebirth – Robert Aloo

According to him, such developments are not unusual during intense political seasons and should not be misconstrued as signs of a fractured party.

A former Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Robert Aloo, has described the seeming tensions within the party as a natural phase in what he termed a “rebirth” process.

According to him, such developments are not unusual during intense political seasons and should not be misconstrued as signs of a fractured party.

Aloo stressed that the current disagreements and charged atmosphere will not define the future of the NPP, expressing confidence that the party will emerge stronger after its January 31 primaries.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, January 26, he noted that internal competition is part of democratic politics.

“What we see today is not new. In politics, these things do happen. As I indicated earlier, the party is going through a process of rebirth, and when that happens, the atmosphere becomes charged. You will see candidates throwing jabs at each other.” He said.

He added that unity would prevail once the primaries are concluded.

“At the end of the day, everybody will realise that it is not good to fight one another and remain in opposition. After January 31, the party will come together and move forward.” Aloo stated.

He further highlighted the importance of the peace pact signed by the various flagbearer aspirants, describing it as a critical roadmap for unity and discipline after the primaries

“When I support a candidate and see that my candidate has signed a peace pact, committing to accept the results and work for party unity, it sends a clear signal that we have a party to build and an election to win.”

Aloo noted that the peace pact would also help regulate political discourse and promote decorum on campaign platforms.

“It helps confine our conversations within acceptable limits and ensures that we maintain decorum in how we engage ourselves.” He added.

Aloo openly declared his support for former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the party’s strongest candidate for the 2028 general elections.

“Among all the contenders, Dr Bawumia is the one who has run the affairs of the country for several years since 2008 and has visited every constituency.”

He argued that the party’s objective of reclaiming power in 2028 makes Dr Bawumia the most viable choice.

“If a party is interested in recapturing power within four years, it must present a candidate the people already know, someone whose impact in government is evident. Dr Bawumia fits that profile, and we have all seen his contributions to national development.”
