Sirigu community thanks President Mahama for appointing Stephen Aeke Akurugo as DCE
The community described the appointment as a significant milestone, bringing pride and renewed optimism to the area.
The chiefs and people of Sirigu in the Kassena-Nankana West District have officially expressed their heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for appointing their son, Honourable Stephen Aeke Akurugo, as District Chief Executive (DCE).
At a press conference held on behalf of the Sirigu Traditional Council, a statement delivered in the name of Azukodaana, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III, Paramount Chief of Sirigu, praised the President for recognizing the potential of youth and selecting a native of Sirigu for the key leadership role.
“We are gathered here today to say a big thank you to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for his choice of our esteemed son – Honourable Stephen Aeke Akurugo – to the high office of DCE. This decision reflects the President’s commitment to nurturing youthful talents from all corners of the nation.” the statement read.

The community described the appointment as a significant milestone, bringing pride and renewed optimism to the area. The chiefs and elders expressed confidence in Akurugo’s vision, dedication, and integrity to serve the district effectively.
The Traditional Council also commended the government for continuing critical infrastructure projects initiated by previous administrations. Notably, the completion of the BOST Culvert bridge linking Sirigu to Bolgatanga through Zorko, as well as ongoing drainage work in the Sirigu market, were highlighted as impactful developments for the community.
“We are happy to announce that vehicles are now using the Sirigu-Zorko road to Bolgatanga, greatly reducing travel time—especially for patients referred to the regional hospital,” the statement said.
The Traditional Council further acknowledged the efforts of the Upper East Regional Minister, the Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), other chiefs in the district, the Member of Parliament, constituency executives, and assembly members who supported Akurugo’s nomination and eventual confirmation.
The people of Sirigu, in the statement, pledged their unwavering support for Akurugo and the government, committing to work together to ensure peace, development, and prosperity in the district.
