UER GES, T-TEL conducts refresher training on Students Assessment Portal for Assistant Heads of SHTS

The training aimed to address practical challenges encountered by schools in using the portal, clarify responsibilities and procedures, and promote accurate, complete and timely assessment records.

The Upper East Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), in partnership with Transforming Teaching, Education & Learning (T-TEL), has organised a refresher training on the Students Assessment Portal (SAP) for Assistant Heads (Academic) and IT Coordinators from Senior High and Technical Schools (SHTS) in the region.

The training, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Notre Dame Minor Seminary/SHS Centre, brought together 32 participants from 16 schools. It forms part of a regional exercise organised in two cohorts, with Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS serving as the other training centre for the region’s 37 SHTS.

The training aimed to address practical challenges encountered by schools in using the portal, clarify responsibilities and procedures, and promote accurate, complete and timely assessment records. It also sought to strengthen monitoring, supervision and accountability while improving coordination between schools and regional officers.

The session was facilitated by Sumaila Sheibu Gandaa, the Regional Statistics Officer, and Kombir Cornelius Anglaanaa, the Regional IT Coordinator.

Addressing participants, the Regional Director of Education (RDE), Razak Z Abdul-Korah urged Assistant Heads (Academic) to take responsibility for the effective use of the portal, stressing that they must “be on top of the job and not leave everything in the hands of the IT Coordinators.”

He further admonished participants to “brief their various Heads immediately after the training” to ensure that the knowledge acquired translates into action at the school level.

Abdul-Korah also emphasized the importance of proper assessment procedures, insisting that teachers must mark learners’ scripts before entering their scores into the portal.

Describing the practice of entering scores without marking scripts as unacceptable, he cautioned that “proper dossiers should be built on such teachers for action to be taken.”

He concluded by expressing appreciation to T-TEL for its continued support towards improving educational delivery in the region.

The training exercise will continue on Monday, October 26, 2026, at the Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS Centre, where the second cohort of participants will receive similar training.
