Upper East GES PRO cautions BECE candidates against harmful post-exam activities

GES PRO warns BECE candidates against risky post-exam celebrations, urges parental supervision

The Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Nathaniel N-yaaba, has advised candidates sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to refrain from engaging in activities that could jeopardise their future after completing their papers.

According to him, the growing trend of after-exam parties and what he described as uncivilised celebrations among candidates is a source of concern and requires urgent attention from both parents and guardians.

N-yaaba made these remarks during an interview on Big Mike Breakfast Show on Tuesday, May 5.

He emphasised the need for parents to play a more active role in ensuring the safety and well-being of their children throughout the examination period and immediately after.

“Parents should support their wards by accompanying them to and from the examination centres. If you make that sacrifice for just this one week, it will serve as a moral booster and also discourage them from engaging in harmful activities,” he said.

He further urged candidates to celebrate responsibly, noting that while it is understandable for students to feel relieved after their exams, such celebrations must be done in moderation.

N-yaaba also called on parents to provide the necessary supervision during this period to keep candidates in check and prevent them from engaging in risky behaviours that could have long-term consequences.
