Upper East GJA chairman urges Journalists to acquire video shooting and editing skills
GJA Upper East Chair highlights mobile journalism as essential skill for modern reporters, shares personal experience, and commends training workshop in Bolgatanga.
The Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Upper East Region, Albert Sore, has underscored the need for journalists and bloggers to acquire basic video shooting and editing skills to stay relevant in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.
According to him, modern journalism now demands multimedia competence, especially in the area of mobile journalism, where reporters are increasingly expected to produce, edit, and publish content using portable devices such as smartphones.
Sore made the remarks during a one-day non-residential training workshop on content creation and mini-video blogging organised by Media Response with support from Free Movement & Migration (FMM) West Africa.
The workshop was held at the Blue Sky Hotel in Bolgatanga on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Sharing his personal experience, Sore disclosed that while working with Joy Prime, he had to independently learn video shooting and editing through YouTube tutorials in order to meet the demands of the job.
He explained that the experience exposed him to the realities of modern newsroom expectations, where journalists are often required to multitask and produce content across multiple platforms and formats.
The GJA Chairman also praised the inclusion of mobile journalism in the training programme, describing it as a timely intervention for media practitioners in the Upper East Region.
The workshop formed part of a broader initiative focused on content creation and mini-video blogging, with emphasis on free movement and migration within West Africa.
