The Senior Staff Association of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Navrongo, has organised a free health screening exercise, including breast cancer screening, as part of activities marking its annual week celebration.
The exercise, held at the University Hospital on Friday October 30, brought together association members, health professionals and other members of the university community to undertake various health checks.
Speaking during the celebration, the Women’s Commission Representative of the Association, Sophia Aboko said the activities were aimed at promoting the health and well-being of members while strengthening unity and togetherness among staff.
She explained that the two-day celebration commenced on Thursday with a campus clean-up exercise, followed by the health screening, breast cancer screening for women, sporting activities and a keep-fit session on Friday.
Aboko expressed appreciation to members who participated in the activities and disclosed that the association hoped to introduce an excursion outside the university campus as part of next year’s celebration. She encouraged members to actively participate in future programmes.
A member of the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana, UTAS Chapter, Richard Tutu said the annual celebration provides an opportunity for staff from different departments and schools to interact and strengthen relationships outside their regular work schedules.
He explained that although the association represents senior staff of public universities across the country, the UTAS chapter opted for a two-day celebration to accommodate members’ demanding work schedules.
Tutu added that the celebration also featured a social gathering, providing members with an opportunity to share a meal and enjoy fellowship.
He described senior staff as an integral part of the university’s operations, noting their contribution to administrative and other essential functions that support the effective running of the institution.
The association described the free health screening as a necessary social intervention, highlighting its commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and extending health benefits beyond its membership to the wider university community.
