We’re tired of promises, we need action – Ayangdoone residents frustrated over delayed electricity and access roads
The community, located on the outskirts of Doba and bordered by Janania and Gugnia, remains the only settlement in the enclave yet to be connected to the national electricity grid.
Residents of Ayangdoone, a farming community within the Kassena Nankana Municipality, say they have had enough of unfulfilled political promises regarding electricity and road access.
The community, located on the outskirts of Doba and bordered by Janania and Gongnia, remains the only settlement in the enclave yet to be connected to the national grid.
Beyond the lack of electricity, Ayangdoone is separated from surrounding communities by a river that residents must cross daily, a situation they say has posed danger and hardship for years.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Tuesday, December 9, community member Patrick Akansele expressed deep frustration over what he described as repeated political rhetoric without results.
“Politicians have been visiting us over the years. Some took pictures and made promises, but we’re not seeing any results. We’re tired of the processes; we now want to see action. We need action now.” He stated.
Akansele also recalled tragic incidents in which community members died while attempting to cross the river.
“The river is a major challenge. It has caused a lot of pain to us. We have lost about three people in that river over the years. It threatens our lives and restricts our movement.” He said.
Another resident, Samson Ajankanga, highlighted the impact of the situation on education.
“When it rains in the morning and the river fills up, it automatically becomes a holiday for pupils and teachers who must cross it to get to school. This makes pupils miss lessons, which affects them severely. These lost periods could have been covered at night, but there is no electricity for pupils to study.” He explained.
Residents say they believe that addressing the electricity and access challenges will restore hope and create better opportunities for the community.
