24 Journalists submit 47 entries for 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards

The 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards attract 47 entries from 24 journalists, with an independent vetting committee set to assess submissions ahead of the October 2 ceremony.

The Upper East Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has received 47 entries from 24 journalists for the 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards.

The submissions closed on Sunday, August 30, at 5:00 p.m., with the number of entries and participating journalists representing an increase over the previous edition, which attracted 42 entries from 18 journalists.

The GJA said the increase demonstrated growing interest among journalists in the Upper East Region to have their work recognised and celebrated for excellence in journalism.

The entries will now undergo a rigorous vetting process by an independent awards vetting committee, which is scheduled to be unveiled on Friday, September 4.

The committee will assess the submissions based on approved criteria for the various award categories.

This year’s awards are being held under the theme: “Beyond the headlines: The media’s role in promoting WASH for safe motherhood and quality healthcare.”

The awards seek to recognise and celebrate journalists whose outstanding reportage has contributed to public discourse, accountability and development, as well as promoted issues affecting communities in the Upper East Region and Ghana as a whole.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for Friday, October 2.

The Upper East Regional GJA Branch expressed appreciation to all journalists who submitted entries, as well as its partners and stakeholders, for their continued support towards promoting journalism excellence in the region.

It also wished all participating journalists success as their entries proceed through the vetting process.
