Navrongo NPP Youth organizer backs renomination of Faustina Abulu as KNMCE

Bayivire further called on Assembly Members to put aside partisan and personal interests and focus on the collective good of the municipality by confirming Abulu during the upcoming vote.

In a rare show of bipartisan support, the Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Daniel Bayivire, has openly endorsed President John Dramani Mahama’s re-nomination of Faustina Akeyom Abulu as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly.

Speaking on Mike FM’s News Beat on Thursday June 12, 2025, Bayivire described the President’s decision as bold and commendable, expressing hope that it would finally pave the way for the much-needed development in the municipality.

“It is welcome news. We want the development of Navrongo municipality to be advanced. That is why we made the press conference, so today when we heard the news about her being re-nominated,” Bayivire stated.

Bayivire also appealed to the assembly members in the municipality to set aside personal interests and work collectively to ensure Abulu is confirmed this time.

“What came to my mind is that the Assembly members and then the party leadership of the NDC should see what they can do to make sure that this time around we don’t get the embarrassment that we got the other time.”

He emphasized that the President’s decision reflects confidence in Abulu’s capabilities, suggesting that she remains the right choice for the role.

“Probably the president has the confidence in her and has done an assessment and know that she is the right person,”

“Because if somebody is rejected and you renominate the person, that means you still believe that the person can deliver, or the person is the right person to do the work.”

Faustina Abulu was initially nominated as MCE in May 2025, but failed to obtain the necessary two-thirds majority vote from assembly members on April 29, 2025.

Her rejection was largely linked to internal party divisions, with critics citing inadequate consultation, lack of inclusiveness in her leadership style, and strained relationships with some traditional leaders and opinion influencers in the municipality.
