IEAG mourns victims of Volta Lake boat disaster, calls for independent probe

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, claimed the lives of fifteen passengers, including children, who were travelling on the lake.

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of fifteen lives in a boat accident on the Volta Lake near Kete-Krachi in the Oti Region.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, claimed the lives of fifteen passengers, including children, who were travelling on the lake.

In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Association, Sampson Asaki Awingobit, the IEAG extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Kete-Krachi community.

“The Association extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Kete-Krachi community, and all who are affected by this tragic loss.” The statement said.

While commending the Ghana Maritime Authority for its swift response, the Association urged authorities to conduct a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation into the circumstances that led to the disaster.

Awingobit emphasised that such an investigation would not only ensure accountability but also help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
