Bonzale leads major road upgrade in Bolgatanga Zongo-Nawoma under DRIP initiative

Infrastructure development in the Zongo-Nawoma Electoral Area in the Bolgatanga municipality has received a significant boost following the commencement of major road construction works spearheaded by the Assembly Member, Haruna Bawa, popularly known as Bonzale.

The project is being executed through the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly with critical support from the District Road Improvements Project (DRIP).

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to upgrade the local road network in line with the reset agenda of President John Dramani Mahama and the vision of the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Ayoo Atanga.

Roads in the Zongo-Nawoma Electoral Area been constructed

A key highlight of the project is the construction of a new road linking the Shell filling station to the inner sections of the community through Imam Umar High Street. The new stretch is expected to significantly improve mobility, enhance access to businesses, and strengthen connectivity within the Zongo community, where residents have long endured muddy and potholed roads, especially during the rainy season.

Speaking to residents during a recent site visit, Bawa underscored the need for cooperation and shared sacrifice, particularly from property owners who may be affected by the construction.

He acknowledged the challenges involved but stressed the long-term benefits.

“I know this is not easy for some families, but when we finish, our children will walk to school without getting stuck in mud, and traders will move their goods with ease. The future of Zongo-Nawoma depends on us working together today.” He said.

The project, which commenced in early October, is expected to be completed by the end of December, ahead of the festive season. Its progress has already generated excitement among residents, many of whom see the development as overdue.

“We’ve been waiting for this for years. It’s amazing to see our assembly member keeping his word. This road will change everything for us.” said Fatima Alhassan, a local shop owner near the construction site.

Community members have described the DRIP-supported road works as a clear demonstration of Bawa’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and improving the overall quality of life in the Zongo-Nawoma Electoral Area.
