Savannah Region is peaceful, Gbenyiri conflict resolved – Regional Minister
Be-Awuribe described the Gbenyiri conflict as the shortest ever recorded in Ghana and acknowledged the collective role of stakeholders who contributed to its swift resolution.
The Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Be-Awuribe, has assured the public of peace and tranquility in the region following a recent violent land dispute in Gbenyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary of the Gonjaland Youth Association, held in Buipe on Sunday, April 5, 2025 at Buipe, the Minister stated that the conflict has been resolved and peace has been restored.
Be-Awuribe described the Gbenyiri conflict as the shortest ever recorded in Ghana and acknowledged the collective role of stakeholders who contributed to its swift resolution.
“Savannah Region is one of the most peaceful regions in the country. We only had a blip not too long ago, and let me state on record that it is the shortest-lived ethnic conflict to have occurred in any part of the country, and it has been resolved.” He said.
He, however, advocated for proper documentation of land boundaries and the establishment of chieftaincy succession plans to prevent future land and chieftaincy disputes.
“We need to work on our land boundaries and, indeed, the rights to land. It must be appreciated by all that our traditions and customs must be properly implemented. We rely on traditional authorities to set in motion a proper, long-lasting method of recording our traditions, customs, and succession plans.” He added.
Addressing the region’s development, Be-Awuribe said it is currently experiencing unprecedented infrastructure growth under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
“Your Excellency, your ambition, inspiration, and what you have set in motion are unprecedented in the Savannah Region. I must quickly add that we are receiving significant infrastructure investment in the region within a short time.” The Minister said.

The 50th anniversary of the Gonjaland Youth Association was under the theme: “Five Decades of Progress: Empowering Gonjaland Youth for the Future.” The event was attended by sons and daughters of Gonjaland from far and near, with President John Dramani Mahama as the Special Guest of Honour.
