The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has commenced nationwide today, with thousands of candidates sitting for the crucial assessment that marks the transition from junior high school to senior high school.
In the Upper East Region, a total of 22,326 candidates are expected to write the examination across 95 designated centres.
Of this number, 19,381 candidates are from public schools, while 2,945 are from private schools.
Authorities say all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and credible examination process throughout the region.
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Ernest Kofi Davis, has issued a strong warning to candidates, urging them to refrain from any form of examination malpractice.
He stressed that strict measures have been implemented to detect and punish offenders, adding that maintaining the integrity of the examination remains a top priority.
Education officials have also encouraged candidates to remain calm, adhere to examination rules, and focus on doing their best under fair conditions.
