Buco Bank drives financial inclusion with digital and agency banking

Builsa Community Bank says its USSD, GhanaPay, ATM and agency banking services are making financial services more accessible to customers, including those without smartphones or internet access.

Builsa Community Bank PLC (Buco) says customers no longer need to depend solely on physical banking halls to access financial services, as the institution continues to expand its digital and agency banking platforms.

The bank says its digital products are designed to make banking faster, easier and more convenient for customers across communities.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 13, the Digital Banking and Marketing Officer of Builsa Community Bank PLC (Buco), Ibrahim-Anyass Issah, explained that the bank has introduced several digital channels that allow customers to transfer money, check account balances, buy airtime and conduct other transactions without visiting a branch.

Issah said customers can access the bank’s USSD mobile banking service by dialing *992#, even when they do not own a smartphone or have an internet connection.

“That one, you don’t even need a smartphone,” he stated.

He explained that through the USSD platform, customers can check their account balances, transfer money, buy airtime and perform other banking transactions using a basic mobile phone.

According to him, the service is particularly important for customers in communities where internet access or smartphones may be limited.

Issah also highlighted the bank’s GhanaPay service, which allows customers to transfer money, pay bills, buy airtime and move funds between accounts.

The Digital Banking and Marketing Officer disclosed that the bank also provides interbank transfers through its Automated Clearing House service, allowing customers to transfer money from their Buco accounts to accounts held at other banks.

“A customer can easily, in real time, move money from his Builsa Bank account to any of those bank accounts,” he explained.

He further mentioned that the bank supports remittances through Western Union, allowing customers to receive money sent from friends and relatives abroad even when they do not maintain an account with the bank.

According to Issah, customers can also access funds through the bank’s smart ATM cards, which are compatible with GH-Link ATMs across the country.

Issah also drew attention to the bank’s agency banking network in Navrongo, saying customers can access services from selected agents within the community.

He explained that the agents are equipped with point-of-sale devices and can serve customers beyond the traditional banking hours.

He said the agency banking system was deliberately introduced to bring banking closer to customers who may find it inconvenient to travel to the branch.

Issah encouraged residents to take advantage of the bank’s digital channels and agency network, saying the institution was committed to providing convenient and customer-focused banking services.

“Builsa Bank is a customer-oriented bank, and customers in and around Navrongo should have confidence in us,” he said.
