Aovare shares political struggles, vows to empower women if elected regional organizer
Aovare recounted the emotional toll of political falsehoods and intra-party opposition she endured during her rise to become the current Women’s Organizer for the Navrongo Central Constituency.
Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Women’s Organizer in the Upper East Region, Ophelia Aovare, has shared personal accounts of the challenges she has faced as a woman in politics, vowing to turn her experiences into fuel for empowering others.
Speaking candidly on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, May 21, Aovare recounted the emotional toll of political falsehoods and intra-party opposition she endured during her rise to become the current Women’s Organizer for the Navrongo Central Constituency.
“Before I even came out to declare my intention, people devised lies against me to gain advantage,” she disclosed. “They said I had mentioned that the woman I was contesting was an illiterate and a fish seller.”
Aovare said the accusations—completely unfounded—were widely believed at the time, damaging her reputation and leaving emotional scars.
“Honestly, that thing till date still hurts me. You know how painful it is when you’re innocent about something and people attribute it to you,” she lamented.
She also expressed frustration at what she described as sabotage from fellow women, particularly during her bid to become Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) after the NPP’s second consecutive victory in the national elections.
“Sometimes I am tempted to believe women are their own enemies,” she said, recalling a female colleague who campaigned against her by alleging that she disrespected party elders.
Aovare however, noted that one of the individuals involved later confronted her and apologized after realizing the claims were untrue.
Despite these setbacks, Aovare remains undeterred in her ambition to serve at the regional level. She emphasized her commitment to rebuilding party structures, especially in the wake of the NPP’s 2024 electoral loss.
If elected, Aovare plans to implement targeted programs that empower women, foster partnerships for growth, and advocate for increased resources to support gender-focused initiatives within the party and beyond.
“My goal is to mobilize and uplift women across the region. We must be united, strategic, and proactive in our approach to leadership,” she said.
