Ayine calls for stronger communication strategy ahead of NPP regional elections
NPP Regional Communications Director hopeful Johnson Ayine outlines plans for coordinated messaging, digital engagement, grassroots communication and stronger research ahead of the party’s regional elections.
Johnson Ayine, a candidate for the position of Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on delegates to elect a communications leadership capable of strengthening the party’s messaging and improving its electoral prospects.
Speaking at a press conference in Bolgatanga on Thursday, August 13, to announce his vision for the party, Ayine said his years of commitment and service to the NPP positioned him to lead the party’s communication efforts in the region.
He said his experience as a communicator, grassroots mobiliser, party activist, strategist and defender of the party’s ideals had given him a deep understanding of the challenges confronting the NPP and the opportunities available to strengthen its communication.
“For many years, I have devoted my energy, experience and commitment to the service of the NPP. I have remained a steadfast communicator, grassroots mobiliser, party activist, strategist and defender of the party’s ideals through both difficult and triumphant moments,” he said.
Ayine said although the NPP had introduced a number of interventions in education, healthcare, infrastructure, digitalisation, agriculture and social development, many of these achievements had not been effectively communicated to the electorate.
He identified the communication gap as one of the key areas he intended to address if elected Regional Communications Director.
According to him, his vision is anchored on a comprehensive communication strategy that would provide direction, consistency and coordination for all communication activities of the party across the region.
“This strategy will ensure that every communicator, constituency executive, polling station officer, TESCON member and grassroots activist speaks with one voice and advances one message,” he said.
Ayine also proposed what he described as a “digital communication revolution” to make greater use of social media and other digital platforms to engage voters, particularly young people.
Other proposals include youth development and leadership succession, evidence-based communication, an “Agoo! House-to-House Communication Campaign,” the establishment of a research and archives committee, and improved welfare and professional development opportunities for party communicators.
He said the proposed research and archives committee would help the party preserve relevant information, document its achievements and provide communicators with credible data to support their public engagements.
Ayine further pledged to promote greater coordination among communicators and strengthen their capacity to effectively communicate the party’s policies, programmes and achievements.
He therefore urged delegates to make a decision that would prioritise the collective interest of the party and position the NPP for greater electoral success.
