Deliver on your promises to Ghanaians and stop the intimidation — NPP Communicator

Maxwell Akunyire says tackling unemployment and implementing the 24-hour economy policy should take priority over arrests and political intimidation.

A member of the communications team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Maxwell Akunyire, has called on the government to stop what he described as the unnecessary intimidation and arrest of Ghanaians for expressing their views.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, May 15, Akunyire said it was unfair for the government to focus on arresting critics while, according to him, many of the promises they made to Ghanaians remain unfulfilled.

He argued that instead of using security agencies to harass citizens, the government should concentrate on addressing the economic hardships confronting the people.

According to him, the growing frustrations among the youth are largely driven by unemployment and the lack of economic opportunities.

“If you cannot provide the people with what you promised them, then at least allow them to speak freely,” he stated.

Akunyire further noted that arresting individuals would not solve the unemployment challenges facing young people in areas such as Navrongo and Chiana-Paga.

“Arrest cannot satisfy the young people in Navrongo or Chiana-Paga who are unemployed and looking for jobs,” he stressed.

He also urged the government to prioritise the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy to create employment opportunities for the youth instead of targeting political opponents and critics.
