Distrust and greed caused NPP defeat in Navrongo – Chasco
Achaari, however, emphasized the urgent need for reconciliation and unity within the NPP, urging members to set aside personal interests and work collectively.
Clifford Wenawome Achaari, popularly known as Chasco, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Treasurer hopeful for the Navrongo Central Constituency, has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 Parliamentary elections to internal divisions, mistrust, and greed among its members.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday morning, Achaari described the loss as self-inflicted, despite the presence of influential party figures actively campaigning in the area.
“We lost woefully, it was a self-inflicted pain,” Achaari said.
“Why will such a thing happen to a party in government? We had a former Regional Minister, a sitting and former MCE, our Parliamentary Candidate, and other stakeholders supporting us.” He added.
According to him, two major factors; mistrust and greed were at the heart of the defeat. Achaari elaborated that there was significant tension and lack of cooperation between various party factions, including supporters of the sitting and former Parliamentary Candidates.
He also claimed that some party supporters actively blocked access to the candidate from individuals who had innovative ideas and could have strengthened the campaign. These actions, he alleged, were driven by selfish interests and political maneuvering.
Achaari, however, emphasized the urgent need for reconciliation and unity within the NPP, urging members to set aside personal interests and work collectively to rebuild the party ahead of future elections.
As part of his campaign for the Treasurer position, Achaari pledged to introduce transparency and accountability in managing the party’s finances. His vision includes establishing proper schedules for resource disbursement, involving the grassroots in financial decisions, and sourcing external funding to enhance the party’s presence and operations in the constituency.
“I am committed to building a strong financial structure for our party in Navrongo. Accountability and inclusivity will be my guiding principles,” he stated.
The NPP’s loss in Navrongo Central during the 2024 elections marked a significant setback for the opposition party, and Achaari’s concerns add to several calls for internal reforms and party cohesion ahead of the next electoral cycle.
