Dr Pedavoah lauds women for their impactful role in shaping families and society

Dr Mary-Magdalene Pedavoah, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Applied Chemistry, School of Chemical and Biochemical Sciences at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), has commended women for the critical and impactful roles they play in shaping families and society at large.
According to her, women occupy foundational positions in society and significantly influence the course of community and national development.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Tuesday, May 12, Dr Pedavoah traced the influence of women to the family level, describing women as the driving force behind the family unit.
“In every community, the family is the basic unit, and within the family, the engine is the woman. She takes care of the children and ensures their wellbeing and healthy upbringing,” she stated.
Dr Pedavoah noted that women play vital roles in nurturing responsible character traits in children, which ultimately shape the kind of adults they become in society.
She further highlighted the economic contributions of women to family development, explaining that many women dedicate their resources and energy toward sustaining their households and supporting societal growth.
“Research has shown that close to 90 percent of women’s income is reinvested into the family,” she emphasized.
Despite their enormous contributions, Dr. Pedavoah acknowledged that women continue to face several challenges, including family care burdens, emotional stress, cultural limitations, and limited opportunities, which negatively affect their progress and wellbeing.
She therefore encouraged women to rise above these challenges by developing a mindset of confidence and determination, stressing that women are capable of achieving their dreams and contributing meaningfully to community and national development.
