The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has attributed delays in several infrastructure projects in the municipality to the capping of the Ghana Education Trust Fund under the previous administration.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony at Azantilow Senior High Technical School, Agalga said the capping of the fund over the past years limited its ability to finance ongoing and new projects.
“For eight solid years, the GETFund had been capped, and as a result, most of the interventions stalled because the fund could no longer afford to pay contractors,” he stated.
He explained that projects initiated earlier, including a fence wall and an assembly hall at Azantilow Senior High Technical School were left incomplete due to the lack of funds.
“GETFund projects which had commenced earlier all got stalled not to even talk about the commencement of new ones,” he added.
Agalga, however, noted that the situation has changed following the decision by government to uncap the fund, restoring its capacity to finance education infrastructure.
“Once the GETFund was uncapped, it opened the floodgates for us to submit requests, and the fund can now respond favourably,” he said.
He described the commencement of multiple projects in the municipality as unprecedented, assuring residents that both new and stalled projects will be completed on schedule.
The projects form part of a broader intervention to improve educational infrastructure across the country.
