Muslim Leader urges youth to avoid drug abuse during Eid al-Adha delebration in Paga
Cleric warns substance abuse is destroying the future of young people and calls for discipline, peace, and responsible living among Muslim youth.
An Islamic leader of the Paga Muslim community in the Kassena-Nankana West District, Sheikh Alhaji Tamimu Atipaga, has advised Muslims, particularly the youth, to refrain from the use of hard drugs and other harmful substances that could jeopardise their future.
According to him, substance abuse continues to pose a major threat to the well-being and development of young people, both spiritually and physically.
Sheikh Atipaga made the remarks in an interview with Mike FM during this year’s Eid al-Adha celebrations held in Paga on Wednesday, May 27.
He cautioned that drug abuse not only destroys lives but also places a heavy financial burden on individuals and families due to the high cost of medical treatment and rehabilitation.
“Allah said we should not use our hands to destroy ourselves. You can use your GH¢1 to buy a drug, and later spend more than GH¢10,000 to cure yourself. I will therefore advise the youth to stop taking hard drugs,” he stated.
The Islamic cleric urged young people to remain disciplined and focus on activities that would contribute positively to their future and the development of their communities.
Beyond personal conduct, Sheikh Atipaga also called for peaceful cross-border relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso, encouraging communities on both sides to continue strengthening ties and spreading the teachings of Allah and Prophet Muhammad.
He noted that peace and cooperation among neighbouring communities remain essential for social harmony and economic development, especially in border areas.
Sheikh Atipaga concluded by reaffirming the importance of peace, discipline, and unity among communities, particularly during religious celebrations that bring together people from different backgrounds and cultures.
