The Director of Community Relations and Outreach at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Professor Douglas Kwasi Boah, has appealed to prospective students and their parents to consider the institution as their preferred destination for higher education, citing its growing reputation for academic excellence, research and innovation.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday, June 11, Professor Boah said UTAS has rapidly emerged as one of Ghana’s leading public universities despite being a relatively young institution.
According to him, the university’s commitment to quality teaching and research has earned it national recognition, as reflected in a recent ranking by the AD Scientific Index.
“According to the AD Scientific Index report, which was released about four days ago, UTAS is ranked the 10th best university in Ghana out of 67 universities in terms of research output,” he stated.
Professor Boah said the ranking underscores the institution’s dedication to producing high-quality research and fostering innovation that contributes to national development.
He noted that UTAS continues to invest in academic excellence, modern learning facilities and community engagement initiatives to ensure that students receive a well-rounded university education.
“We therefore humbly appeal to parents and guardians who are looking for quality university education for their wards to choose no other university but UTAS because we are among the best institutions in the country,” he added.

Also speaking on the programme, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at UTAS, Professor Melvin-Guy Adonadaga, highlighted measures introduced by the university to improve postgraduate education and ensure students complete their programmes within the stipulated timeframe.
He explained that the university has adopted student-centred policies designed to support working professionals who pursue postgraduate studies while managing their careers and family responsibilities.
“For every 10 students who begin a postgraduate programme, eight are able to complete within the regular duration of the programme because we understand that many of them are balancing academic work with their professional lives,” Professor Adonadaga said.
He disclosed that the university has introduced a Thesis Management System to streamline the supervision and assessment process, while the period for external examination of theses has been reduced from eight weeks to four weeks to facilitate timely completion.
Professor Adonadaga further revealed that the university has instituted a Most Promising Thesis Award to recognize and support outstanding postgraduate students.
According to him, recipients of the award receive support to participate in academic conferences and present their research findings to wider scholarly audiences, thereby enhancing their professional development and visibility.
The two lecturers also used the platform to invite the public to the university’s seventh congregation ceremony scheduled for Saturday June 13.
The ceremony is expected to celebrate the achievements of graduating students and highlight UTAS’s growing contribution to higher education, research, innovation and community development in Ghana.
