The recruits comprising 893 Community Police Assistants, 280 Fire Service Assistants, 393 Community Medical First Responders, and 387 Prisons Service Assistants have been deployed across all districts in the region.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, says government has recruited 1,953 young people in the Upper East Region into various youth employment modules rolled out by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

Speaking during a media engagement at the Presidential Lodge in Bolgatanga on Wednesday, January 21, Akamugri said the recruits comprising 893 Community Police Assistants, 280 Fire Service Assistants, 393 Community Medical First Responders, and 387 Prisons Service Assistants have been deployed across all districts in the region.

“Under the Youth Employment Agency, a total of 1,953 young people have been recruited in the region…they have been deployed across all 15 districts. Each will receive a monthly stipend of GH¢800, with Police and Fire Service Assistants having received two months’ payments.”

The Regional Minister further disclosed that under the National Apprenticeship Programme, 244 master craftspersons have been engaged in the Upper East Region to train 1,220 apprentices, with each master trainer mentoring five apprentices.

“Government is fully covering the cost of training, which ranges from GH¢1,500 to GH¢4,000 per apprentice depending on the trade area, easing the financial burden on parents.”

Akamugri added that payments to the master craftspersons are expected to be completed by the end of January, while arrangements are underway to introduce stipends for apprentices.

He revealed that 42 percent of beneficiaries are engaged in garment making, 18 percent in hairdressing, with the remaining 40 percent spread across other vocational trades.

“The programme has achieved wide coverage across all districts, with Bawku Municipal and Bolgatanga Municipal recording the highest enrolments.” He added.

Minister Akamugri said the initiative demonstrates government’s strong commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and job creation across the region.
