ENACTUS-UTAS marks 25 years with innovative solutions to societal challenges

The anniversary event, held on Saturday, February 21 at the university campus in Navrongo, highlighted the organisation’s milestones and unveiled a renewed vision for impact-driven entrepreneurship.

The Enactus team at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving social and economic transformation through student-led innovation as it celebrated the 25th anniversary of Enactus Ghana.

The anniversary event, held on Saturday, February 21 at the university campus in Navrongo, highlighted the organisation’s milestones and unveiled a renewed vision for impact-driven entrepreneurship.

Addressing participants at the launch, President of Enactus UTAS, Abdul Aziz, outlined key innovations developed by the team to tackle pressing societal challenges.

“We have developed three impactful products,” he said. “Cocoa Fest, an organic fertiliser produced from coconut husk to improve soil health; Eco Husk, an initiative that converts agricultural waste into plywood and charcoal; and Bio Plus, a biodegradable plastic made from cassava starch embedded with viable seeds.”

According to him, the team’s dedication and innovation have propelled UTAS onto the international stage, where it has competed creditably, bringing honour to both the university and the nation.

“As we celebrate 25 years of Enactus Ghana, we are not merely reflecting on history,” he noted. “We are focused on the future we are building. Our theme, ‘Transforming Visions into Reality,’ speaks to the work we are doing, from the soil of our farms to the glow of our screens.”

The Vice-Chancellor of UTAS, Professor Albert Luguterah, who was the Guest of Honour, commended the team for its outstanding achievements and the prestige it has brought to the institution.

“Allow me to speak with deep pride about our Enactus UTAS team,” he said. “You have not only participated, you have dominated. As back-to-back national champions, you have raised the UTAS flag high and demonstrated that excellence is not defined by the size or age of an institution.”

He further noted that the team has represented Ghana on the global stage, twice advancing to rank among the top 16 teams in the world, a feat he described as historic.

“This is not a small achievement. This is excellence. This is UTAS,” Prof. Luguterah emphasised. “Your success has positioned our university as a powerhouse of innovation and social entrepreneurship.”

The Vice-Chancellor assured the team of continued institutional backing, including mentorship and an enabling environment to nurture their ambitions.

“Dream even bigger,” he urged. “You have conquered Ghana; now set your sights on conquering the world. Stay consistent and lead with purpose.”
