GETFund opens applications for 2025/26 undergraduate local scholarships

The initiative forms part of government efforts to widen access to higher education and reduce the financial pressures faced by students and their families.

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has announced the opening of applications for its 2025/26 Undergraduate Local Scholarship Programme to support Ghanaian students enrolled in Diploma, Higher National Diploma (HND), and Degree programmes in accredited tertiary institutions nationwide.

The Fund stated that applications officially opened on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, and will close on Friday, 20 February 2026. The initiative forms part of government efforts to widen access to higher education and reduce the financial pressures faced by students and their families.

Prospective applicants are required to apply exclusively through the GETFund scholarship portal, where they must complete an online application form and upload scanned copies of all relevant supporting documents for vetting and shortlisting.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted after the assessment process has been concluded, while further details on the application requirements and procedures are available on the portal.

GETFund has cautioned applicants against dealing with third parties, stressing that all correspondence will be conducted directly between the Fund and applicants and that applications submitted outside the official portal will not be considered. The Fund also noted that it has not appointed any individuals or agencies to act as intermediaries in the scholarship process and urged the public to report anyone making such claims to the nearest police station.

In outlining eligibility restrictions, GETFund explained that first-year regular undergraduate students in public tertiary institutions, Diploma students in Colleges of Education and Nursing Training Colleges, as well as Persons with Disabilities in public tertiary institutions from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, are not eligible to apply under this particular scheme. However, the Fund added that individuals in these categories may instead seek assistance through other government interventions such as the Students Loan Trust Fund, the “No Fees Stress” programme, and the PWD Support Initiative.

All applications must be submitted via the official GETFund scholarship website at scholarships.getfund.gov.gh, and eligible students are encouraged to apply early to avoid last-minute challenges.
