Insecurity in Bawku leads to low patronage at Zekula Festival -Ejura-Sekyeredumase MP
The MP says ongoing insecurity in Bawku is discouraging participation in the Zekula Festival and is urging all sides to embrace peace for development.
The Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyeredumase, Braimah Bawa, has attributed the declining turnout at recent Zekula celebrations to the ongoing conflict in Bawku.
Speaking in a media interview during this year’s Zekula Festival on April 18, the MP noted that the volatile security situation in the area continues to discourage participation, especially from visitors.
“Of late, our festival has suffered low patronage due to the volatile nature of the Bawku area,” he stated.
He explained that the festival, which traditionally brings together Bissa people from across Ghana and beyond, has seen reduced attendance as a result of safety concerns.
The MP also made a passionate appeal for peace in the Bawku area, stressing that conflict undermines development and opportunities for the youth.
“There is no winner in such a conflict. We are all losers, so we should give peace a chance and choose love over violence.” He urged.
The Zekula Festival is an annual gathering that celebrates the heritage, unity, and traditions of the Bissa people while serving as a platform to discuss development challenges affecting their communities.
