Tangoba Abayage endorses Dr. Bawumia for NPP flagbearer position

According to her, the party has reached a critical stage in its decision-making process and requires a leader with the experience, competence, and capacity to steer its affairs going forward.

Former Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, has declared her support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31.

According to her, the party has reached a critical stage in its decision-making process and requires a leader with the experience, competence, and capacity to steer its affairs going forward.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, January 30, Abayage officially announced her endorsement of Dr. Bawumia, describing him as the best candidate to lead the party.

“I have elected myself to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Beyond that, I have actively engaged delegates within and outside the Navrongo Central Constituency, and I have also participated in social media and radio engagements, all aimed at mobilising support for him ahead of the primaries.” She stated.

She outlined several reasons for her decision, citing Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to the party, experience, and leadership qualities.

“There are numerous reasons that informed my decision. His commitment to the party is key. He has shown dedication at all levels of the party more than any other candidate in these primaries.”

“His experience, exposure, selflessness, integrity, and development-oriented mindset clearly set him apart.” She said.

Abayage further described Dr. Bawumia as the best Vice President Ghana has ever had, urging critics not to place the shortcomings of the previous administration solely on him.

“We must take collective responsibility for the mistakes we made as a government. It cannot be blamed on one person. Besides, he has been there before and knows what must be done differently going forward.” She noted.

She appealed to delegates to turn out in their numbers and vote for Dr. Bawumia, stressing that his leadership would position the NPP strongly to recapture power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.

Abayage also called for decorum, discipline, and circumspection throughout the primary process to ensure a successful election and preserve unity within the party afterward.
